rAge 2008

Quirky capitalization is old hat. But back when it was cool, the rAge eXpo was first held. This year it’s on 3-5 Oct, once again at the Coca-Cola Dome in Northgate.
In addition to what you would expect at a computer and console gaming expo, you should also expect kawaii~ Otakumag girls at the entrance (photo [...]

Iron Man (Fiction) and the Raytheon Sarcos XOS (Reality)

Tony Stark Hates Cockroaches
You need to see Iron Man. Why? Because it is awesome. Robert Downey Jr. is completely believable as Tony Stark. It’s also a much more believable back story than the Orson Scott Card comic book prequel (Brain Disease Monkeys Bit My Mom So My Body Is My Brain And It Hurts So [...]

Free Comic Book Day 2008

What is Free Comic Book Day? Just what it says: Once a year, on the first Saturday of May, you can visit your local friendly comic book specialty shop, and you will be given at least one free comic book. The main aim seems to be to get feet into the stores.
Personally I’d just make [...]

Live Action Ghost in the Shell

Larch has just drawn my attention to the fact that Spielberg got his paws on the rights make a Ghost in the Shell live action movie.
I can’t think of a worse director for this than Spielberg. Look at what he did to AI and Memoirs of a Geisha! The man can’t stand an unhappy ending. [...]

A Karoo Moose

I have the pleasure of being a good friend of Wilhelm Conradie. He’s a playwright, stage manager and drama lecturer living in the Cape. He has been stage manager for plays like Victory, has helped out with Who’s Afraid Of Virginia Woolf, written plays like iforest (he says that not even the poster got it [...]

Ster Kinekor invited Mensa to an exclusive screening of Starter for 10. I attended the screening, and I finally met Owen Swart there! (You really, really need to see his Homeopathic Suicide Attempt)
Based on the David Nicholls novel Starter for Ten, the movie tells the story of Brian Jackson - a working-class British kid who [...]

UPCON, Hacker Diet and Star Trek Minicon

Just a reminder - UPCON 2008 starts tomorrow. I’m really looking forward to mingling, seeing new Anime (hosted kindly by Otakumag), and finding out about this Legend of the Five Rings game I’ve been hearing about. (Yes, I’m a convicted Japanese Fanboy. So sue me.)
If you are attending, you might not recognize me. I’ve lost [...]

Kanedaaaaa! Tetsuooooo!

A live-action remake of Akira is in the works for 2009. Well, two remakes, really. See, they’re splitting it. It’s being produced by Warner Brothers and… Leonardo DiCaprio (?!?) (Details and details)
Hey, at least it isn’t Speed Racer.
