Both Larch and Shadowfox have posted criticisms of Animax, and I have to agree.
I can’t imagine what MultiChoice is thinking. Their stated target market is defined as “viewers aged 15 to 29″. That means that the majority of the viewers are young adults. So why is Animax only available in the expensive full subscription?
This basic marketing error is compounded by the way the channel is being run. The same shows are being repeated over and over, episodes are shown out of order (and I don’t mean The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya), signs are translated into German (Was sind ich, ein Sauerkraut?), and the Japanese soundtracks are not broadcast.
The last item may seem like nitpicking, but English dubs rarely measure up to the excellent Japanese voice acting, so many Otaku (myself included) actually prefer to watch the shows in Japanese with subtitles. DSTV certainly has the technology to broadcast multiple soundtracks.
As long as Animax is only available as part of the the full subscription package, and as long as it’s being run the way it is, I predict that Anime fans will rather continue spending their hard earned cash on DVDs.

Hope you dont mind but I added you blog to my blog link list on Anime Life And Everything Else
I don’t mind at all. Just keep in mind that Constant Flux isn’t strictly an Anime blog - It’s just a blog about whatever I find interesting.
I definetly agree the constant repeats and skipping of episodes I beginning to drive me away.
I agree the repeats need to stop! i don’t know about it only being available on the full bouquet that’s a business strategy - the best channels are reserved for the full. And i actually like the dubs, my japanese is NON-EXISTANT, although i do want to learn. AND why aren’t we getting the shows that Animax shows on its networks overseas? like: Full Metal Alchemist, One Piece, and Ginko.
