It’s always a headache to create Windows icons.
Visual Studio 2005’s icon editor can’t save 32-bit color icons, so one usually has to resort to using an external program.
In fact, Microsoft’s guide to Creating Windows XP Icons requires the use of a program called Gif Movie Gear, which has a licence fee of about $30.
After looking for yet another 30-day trail editor after the previous one’s period ran out, I came across IcoFX. It’s a slick and powerful icon editor, and has won multiple awards. The best part is that it’s completely free.
Take that greedy commercial icon editor software imperialists!
